A little while ago, I shared that I had entered my reading era. Looking back now, that may have been something of an understatement. The reality is, this year alone I have read hundreds of books, and somewhere between late nights, quiet mornings, and “just one more chapter” moments, I have found myself completely immersed.
With that level of reading comes clarity. Patterns begin to emerge, preferences become obvious, and certain authors start to stand out above the rest. Before I dive into my current favourites, it is worth saying that reading is entirely subjective. What I love will not be for everyone, and that is exactly how it should be. But if you enjoy the same kind of escapism I do, there is a strong chance these names will feel familiar.
Elle Kennedy
Once I properly caught the reading bug, the name Elle Kennedy was everywhere. Her college hockey series seemed to follow me from recommendation lists to social media, and after dipping into similar reads like Icebreaker, I knew it was only a matter of time before I gave her books a try.
I will admit, I had my doubts at first. I questioned whether I would connect with characters in their early twenties, particularly when you look at relationships through a more realistic lens. But once I let go of that and allowed myself to be pulled into the world she creates, I was completely hooked. They are fun, immersive, and exactly what I want when I am looking for a bit of escapism.
Elsie Silver
There is something quite romantic about discovering an author completely by chance. I remember wandering through Waterstones when Flawless quite literally caught my eye from the shelf. As someone who has always loved country music and that entire aesthetic, it felt like an easy decision.
Within a couple of chapters, I was invested. By the time I went on holiday shortly after, I was deep into her entire back catalogue. Now, whenever someone asks me for romance recommendations, Elsie Silver is almost always my starting point. Her books have that perfect balance of comfort and connection that makes you want to keep reading just one more.
Lyla Sage
I have absolutely no shame in admitting that a significant number of my book recommendations come from TikTok. When it works, it really works, and Lyla Sage is the perfect example of that.
After finishing the Chestnut Springs series, I genuinely felt like there was a gap. One of those quiet reading slumps where nothing quite hits the same. Then Lyla Sage appeared, and almost instantly filled that space. What really stood out for me was her ability to create characters that linger. The kind you find yourself thinking about long after you have finished the book, which, given how many I read, is no small achievement.
Liz Tomforde
I started the Windy City series on something of a whim. I had likely seen it mentioned in passing and decided, without much thought, to download the first book. That was all it took.
What I love most about her writing is the way each book connects. By the end of the series, you feel genuinely invested in the characters, not just individually, but as a whole. There is something incredibly satisfying about revisiting them, seeing their lives unfold beyond their own story. And of course, the way she writes both romance and tension is, quite frankly, excellent.
Ali Hazelwood
My relationship with Ali Hazelwood started off slightly rocky. The first time I picked up one of her books, I found myself a little lost. She blends romance with science in a way that initially felt unfamiliar, and I struggled to keep up with some of the technical aspects.
But then something clicked. I realised that I did not need to understand every detail to enjoy the story being told. Once I let go of that, I fell completely into her writing. Each book since has only reinforced that feeling. And as for Bride, well… that is a conversation in itself.
Final Thoughts
What I love most about these authors is the consistency they bring. I know that when I pick up one of their books, I am going to be pulled into a world that allows me to switch off, to relax, and to fully escape for a while.
Reading, for me, has become less about ticking off books and more about how those books make me feel. And these authors deliver that feeling every single time. They have become my go-to names, the ones I automatically trust when I need something I know I will enjoy.
As always, I would love to hear from you. Who are your current author obsessions, and is there anyone you think I absolutely need to add to my list?
